Miguel dos Santos Pereira
Miguel dos Santos Pereira is a Portuguese lawyer and independent scholar working at the intersection of law, cognitive science and decision-making.
His research examines how contemporary scientific models of the mind challenge traditional assumptions about agency, responsibility and judgement within normative systems, particularly in criminal law. Drawing on developments in cognitive science, predictive processing and the theory of constructed emotion, his work explores the epistemological limits of evidence and the foundations of criminal responsibility.
His current work focuses on how decision-making processes operate within institutional contexts, including courts, public policy and other normative domains. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining legal analysis and cognitive science, he investigates how contemporary scientific insights may contribute to a more rigorous understanding of responsibility and judgement.
Miguel dos Santos Pereira is the author of the essay series Primado do Direito, published in the newspaper Página Um, and of the project Reasonable Doubt.
